Helpful equipment
- Large pot
Ingredients
- 1 lb. ground lamb
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1.5 tsp cumin
- 1.5 tsp paprika
- 1.5 tsp sumac (or lemon juice)
- 1/2 tsp salt or to taste
- 1 tbsp. ginger grated
- 1/2 cup cilantro, chopped
- 4 pressed or minced garlic cloves
- 1.5 tsp Chinese five spice powder
- 1/4 tsp cardamom
- 1/2 tsp allspice
- 1/2 avocado sliced
- 1/2 cup + 2 tbsp. water
- Pita breads or similar substitutes
Instructions
Step 1
In a small bowl, mix together black pepper, cumin, paprika, sumac, salt, Chinese five spice powder, cardamom, and allspice.
Step 2
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the ground lamb, breaking it into pieces. Discard any excess fat, juices, or impurities that accumulate. Stir in the ginger and garlic, cooking until fragrant.
Step 3
Sprinkle the spice mixture (from Step 1) and chopped cilantro over the lamb. Stir well to incorporate the meat with the ingredients.
Step 4
Pour water into the pot, bring it to a boil, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally and adding water to prevent the pot from drying out. Cook until the lamb is tender and has absorbed the liquid.
Step 5
Remove from heat and serve in a warmed pita bread, topped with sliced avocado and any other desired toppings.
